Fish Pods

The Fish Pods initiative aims to explore new ways to increase marine biodiversity and support native species in Sydney Harbour.

The pods are artificial structures made of hexagonal pods constructed from marine-grade steel and concrete. Over time, the pods become encrusted with seaweed and sea life, providing a home, shelter and food source for smaller fish species.

The project is led by marine researchers at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the pods are created by Reef Design Lab.

To date, fish pods have been installed alongside the Sydney Opera House seawall at Bennelong Point.
